Microsoft Teams & Slack alerts

Post alerts to a Teams or Slack channel as well as, or instead of, email.

Documentation menu

Alerts can post to the channels where your team already works. A channel is added once and can then be chosen on any alert. Channels are for alerts; scheduled reports are sent by email.

1. Get a webhook address from Teams or Slack

AppWhat to do
Microsoft TeamsIn the channel, open ⋯ → Workflows → “Post to a channel when a webhook request is received”, finish the steps, then copy the URL. Telyzer accepts Workflows addresses (ending in logic.azure.com or powerplatform.com) and Office connector addresses.
SlackCreate a Slack app with Incoming Webhooks, add it to the channel, and copy the URL. It starts with https://hooks.slack.com/.

2. Add the channel in Telyzer

  1. Open Alerts and find Teams & Slack channels.
  2. Choose Add channel, pick the app, give it a name your team recognises (for example “NOC team”, up to 80 characters) and paste the webhook URL.
  3. Choose Send test. A “Telyzer test message” should appear in the channel; if it does not, Telyzer shows the app's answer.
Note: The webhook URL works like a password for the channel: anyone holding it can post there. After saving, Telyzer shows only the app's address and its last few characters.

3. Choose channels on an alert

  • On a new or existing alert, tick the channels under Also post to (up to 10).
  • Email recipients are optional when the alert posts to a channel; leave them empty to post to the channel only.
  • The post carries “Telyzer alert:” and the alert's name, what happened, the organization, the observed value and the threshold, and an Open in Telyzer button. It is written in the alert's language.
  • Send test on the alert sends to its email recipients and its channels at once.

When a post fails

Each channel shows when it last posted, and Last post failed if the app refused the last message, for example because the workflow was turned off or the Slack app removed. A channel that fails does not stop the email, or posts to other channels. Fix it in Teams or Slack, or add the channel again with a new URL.

Removing a channel

Remove takes the channel off every alert that uses it. If an alert posts only to that channel and has no email recipients, removing is refused until you give that alert an email recipient or another channel, so no alert is left with nowhere to go. Owners, administrators and managers can add, test and remove channels.
